“Oh sinnerman, where you gonna run to?
Sinnerman, where you gonna run to?
Where you gonna run to?
All on that day
” Sinnerman” is an African American traditional spiritual song; a gospel song. It is based on biblical precepts such as ‘sinners’ and Judgment Day. It has been recorded by a number of performers:
-It was recorded in the 1950s by Les Baxter, The Swan Silvertones, The Weavers and others, before Nina Simone recorded an extended version in 1965 (the longest one – 10 minutes). Nina Simone’s rendition is actually an extended version of the original. She had learnt the lyrics by heart during her childhood as her mother was a Methodist Minister: she would help people confess their sins. “A “sinner”, especially within the context of this song, is someone who willfully and continuously disobeys the laws of God.”
“So I ran to the devil, he was waitin’
I ran to the devil, he was waitin’
Ran to the devil, he was waitin’
All on that day
I cried –
Power!!!!!!!” Have you ever thought about #overeating as a #sinful act ?
